Key facts about the food and beverage market in Brazil

1. Brazil is the largest food and beverage market in Latin America and among the top 10 in the world.

2. The sector represents around 10.8% of the national GDP, according to ABIA (Brazilian Food Industry Association), 2024.

3. In 2024, the Brazilian food industry earned R$1.277 trillion, an increase of 9.98% over the previous year, according to the Brazilian Food Industry Association (ABIA).

4. Most of the turnover, 72%, came from the domestic market, while 28% came from foreign trade.

5. In general, the segments that grew the most were food service (+10.4%) and food retail (+8.8%).

6. The food industry invested almost R$40 billion in 2024. Of this amount, R$24.9 billion was directed towards innovations and R$13.80 billion towards mergers and acquisitions.

7. When we talk about the drinks sector, this industry generates more than R$230 billion a year.

8. Brazil is the 3rd largest beer consumer market in the world, behind only China and the USA.

Brazilian products reach more than 190 countries, the main markets being Asia (38.7% of exports, especially China, with a 14.9% share), followed by the Arab League (18.9%) and the European Union (12.6%). The items that top the list are animal proteins (meat), with US$ 26.2 billion; sugar products, with US$ 18.9 billion; soy products, with US$ 10.7 billion; oils and fats, with US$ 2.3 billion; juices and vegetable preparations, with US$ 3.7 billion; ABIA 2024.

10. The food industry created 72,000 direct jobs in 2024 - the number of workers in the production chain reaches 10.4 million. Added to the 288,000 indirect jobs, there were 360,000 new vacancies, ABIA, 2024.
