ANUFOOD Brazil brings together government authorities and representatives from the food and beverage industry at its opening

Inaugurated today (9), at São Paulo Expo, the 2nd edition of the event has 400 exhibitor brands, and should receive more than 10 thousand visitors by Wednesday.

São Paulo, March 2020 – With an auditorium full of businessmen, representatives of state and federal governments and the main entities of the food and beverage sector, was opened this Monday morning (9), ANUFOOD Brazil – Exclusive International Food and Beverage Trade Fair that continues until Wednesday (11) at São Paulo Expo. For Cassiano Facchinetti, general director of Koelnmesse in Brazil, organizer of the fair, the food industry has great potential to contribute to a new cycle of growth in the country. “Brazil’s vocation for food and beverage production has increasingly gained global attention. Faced with this scenario, the country deserves an event inspired by Anuga, the world’s largest food and beverage fair”, he said.

According to Facchinetti, ANUFOOD Brazil is the highest quality business platform for national and international buyers. “Agrifoods; Meat; Chilled & Fresh Food; Dairy; Drinks & Hot Beverages; Fine Food; Bread & Bakery: Organic; Sweets & Snacks; and Food Service. In these ten segments of the fair visitors will find sources of inspiration and great business opportunities”. Also present at the opening ceremony, Koelnmesse CEO Gerald Böse stressed that ANUFOOD’s purpose is to support and encourage the promotion of business in the Brazilian food and beverage sector.

One of the ambassadors of the event, the former Minister of Agriculture, Roberto Rodrigues, Coordinator of the Agribusiness Center of FGV (Fundação Getúlio Vargas), reminded that in a medium and short term future the role of Brazil will be increasingly greater in world food security. “We have the mission to feed the world”. A task that, for the former Minister of Agriculture, is feasible. “We have the technology and capable people to fulfill this goal,” he said. “That’s why FGV joined Koelnmesse to show our ability and expertise. So much so that we are, in this fair, with those who make it happen. ”

Alexandre Jobim, president of Abir – Brazilian Association of Soft Drinks and Non-Alcoholic Beverages Industries, said that the ANUFOOD registers the punishment of the food and beverage sector in Brazil. “Our potential is so great that even in crises like the ones we are experiencing, the event continues to exist and grow. And, at this moment, it is still able to put the future of the country in discussion”.

For João Dornellas, president of ABIA – Brazilian Association of Food Industry, the sector represents the largest industry in our country. “It processes 58% of the food produced by our agriculture and cattle raising, in 37 thousand companies that generate 1.6 million jobs,” he said. “In 2019 alone, we generated R$ 699.9 billion, something around 9.7% of the GDP. And that explains why Brazil receives the 2nd edition of ANUFOOD. Although we are experiencing a coronavirus outbreak, it is an excellent time for us to discuss the importance of the country, which is expected to grow between 2.5% and 3% this year”.

The Director of Corporate Management of Apex – Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency, Edervaldo Teixeira de Abreu Filho, said that the agency is committed to expanding the visibility of ANUFOOD. “We work with our partners and the general public in Brazil and abroad, which can be reached in our network,” he said.

The Secretary of Agriculture and Supply of the State of São Paulo, Gustavo Junqueira, also emphasized that “the fair has the power to attract people to know our experience of many years. From food importer to exporter. And Brazil will still grow a lot”.

Fernando Henrique Kohlmann Schwanke, Secretary of Family Agriculture and Cooperativism, reminded that “our agriculture and cattle raising no longer fit into the country”. “We are strategic in food security. There is no agriculture without it being sustainable. Sustainable agriculture is a central theme for the Ministry and UNAFOOD plays the role of bringing the issue to the debate”, he said.

Closing the event, the Secretary of Economic Development of the State of São Paulo, Patricia Ellen, representing the governor João Doria, said that the food and beverage sector generates 1.3 million job vacancies in the state and is the segment that generates most jobs in the country. “It is the sector that produces a lot of wealth for our state and our country. And it is here, in ANUFOOD, that we can make the difference by uniting manufacturers, producers and buyers”.

ANUFOOD Brazil is sponsored by Makro Food Service, BRF and the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA).
